In the tradition of "dathün," this retreat focuses on the practice of Calm Abiding sitting meditation. While there are no pre-requisites, this is an intensive meditation retreat. We will practice shamatha (peaceful abiding) meditation during this retreat and instruction will be provided.  The full retreat will "count" for one-week of the dathün requirement for advanced Shambhala programs.

People of all spiritual and non-spiritual traditions welcome.

The daily schedule beginning on 1/27 will look something like this:

8:00 am-noon opening chants, sitting and walking meditation
noon-2:00 silent lunch together and short work period (lunch clean up)
2:00-5:00  sitting and walking meditation
5:00-6:00 light dinner and stretch break (silent)
6:00-8:00  sitting and walking meditation with evening and closing chants

1/26 is arrival day.  We will meet at 5:30 to go over details of the retreat.  Since we will begin the formal retreat at 8:00 am the next morning, it is essential that people arrive in time for this orientation.

The evening practice session will be open to the public from 6:00-7:00 and we will practice the Mamo Chants during this time.

This practice intensive will be held mostly in silence, with an opportunity for meeting with a meditation instructor and ending with a group celebration. Sitting periods will be interspersed with walking meditation, dharma talks by the teaching staff, opening and closing chants and rota (work period).

Simple one-bowl meals (lunch and dinner) are included.  If you have special dietary needs, you are welcome to bring your own food.  All meals will have a vegetarian option.

While we invite people to join for a day or more on a space available basis, the intent of this retreat is to engage fully in all 7 days.  Daily fee is $50.00 each day; full retreat public: $275.00; Open Sky members $225.00.  We are not offering the "pay what you can" generosity policy for this retreat, however we may have scholarship funds available so please inquire if needed. This retreat has limited capacity and as such, those who have paid or made payment arrangements will have priority to fill spots.

Payment plans are available.  Space is limited to 20 - please register early. Local sangha members can host some people - again, please register and inquire early.

Email for questions about housing, to set up a payment plan or questions about this retreat.

This is an intensive meditation retreat to really work with our minds.  To get the most out of this retreat, we suggest that people plan to be technology-free, limit reading to texts that provide support for the meditation practice and avoid media during the retreat.

The concluding banquet on 2/2 will also be our local annual Shambhala Day Celebration. During the celebration, those inspired may offer song, dance, poetry or other art forms.
